Back to Basics: What is Heat Transfer Vinyl?

Back to Basics, what is HTV

Are you new to garment decoration? Or looking to expand your business. Join us as we take it #backtobasics and explain exactly what each product is and find the perfect product for you and your business.

Firstly, what is Heat Transfer Vinyl?

Heat Transfer Vinyl is a material that can be cut to any shape or size to decorate all kinds of garments such as jerseys, t-shirts and workwear.

You cut your design out of the HTV using a cutter and weed the unwanted vinyl from the design.

How Do I Apply HTV?

HTV can be applied to fabrics including cotton, poly/cotton blends, spandex, polyester and even nylon. On the back of the Vinyl you have the adhesive which is activated once placed onto the fabric with a heat press. The adhesive bonds with the fabric it's being applied to, this can take between 5 and 25 seconds depending of the type of HTV you are using.

Once the HTV has been applied, the carrier (the plastic backer that protects the Vinyl before it's fused onto fabric) must be removed. Some HTV requires the garment and Vinyl to cool before removing, others can be removed warm. (Application instructions come with your HTV).

With so many options, which HTV is for me?
